BAS Assisting LA Sanitation Districts
In Development of New Regional Landfill

The County Sanitation Districts has selected BAS to perform several significant contracts associated with the development of a major new regional landfill facility in Imperial County.

The Mesquite Regional Landfill will be California's first operational landfill able to receive waste by rail when it becomes operational in 2008.  The site is located approximately 200 miles east of Los Angeles near the city of Glamis.  The site is permitted to receive waste from Los Angeles, Imperial, Riverside, San Bernardino, Ventura, Orange, and San Diego counties.

The Districts have selected BAS' subsidiary traffic engineering firm KFM Engineering to design the facility's access road, drainage improvements, and an intersection with SR-78.

KFM was also selected to design the entrance facilities for the new landfill. Facilities being designed at the site include a scale house, administration building, trade shops, a mechanic’s office, and crew quarters.

BAS is proud to be supporting the Districts on the development of an important new component in the southern California solid waste management system.
