Remediation Oversight

BAS engineers and geologists can oversee remedial construction activities to ensure that clean-up work is performed in compliance with local, state, and Federal regulatory requirements. Field staff have experience overseeing waste removal operations, final closure cap installation, UST removals, and construction and start-up of groundwater pump-and-treat systems, soil vapor extraction systems, and bioremediation systems.

Example Projects:
	Campbell Shipyard – San Diego, California Provided environmental oversight during demolition of concrete structures adjacent San Diego Bay, and removal of underlying petroleum impacted sediments at former shipyard. Oversaw removal, stabilization, and disposal of sediments impacted with free petroleum hydrocarbons. Removal activities were coordinated throughout the project to accommodate tidal fluctuations.
	Los Angeles to Pasadena Gold Line Construction Performed hazardous waste field monitoring services during the construction of a 13.7-mile light rail line. Supervised and oversaw waste management and disposal services; excavation, storage, removal, transportation and disposal of potentially contaminated materials. Supervised sampling activities and oversaw removal and disposal of hazardous materials.
	Aggregate Recycling Systems Site Cleanup – Huntington Park, California Provided oversight during clean-closure of a large debris pile located directly adjacent to residential neighborhoods. Cleanup involved segregation / blending of concrete, asphalt and soil materials for on site crushing, removal of steel rebar, recycling of crushed concrete, and offsite disposal of excess soil.
	Hilltop Drive Site Clean-up – Redding, California Assisted California Integrated Waste Management Board during clean-up of former burn dump adjacent to the Sacramento River. Site closure involved consolidation and encapsulation of burn ash, construction of a final cover system and drainage improvements, and construction of a multiple-use recreational bike path. The project won the California Department of Transportation’s Excellence in Transportation Award in the Pedestrian and Bicycle Facilities categories.
	Valle Vista Disposal Site – Hemet, California Provided remedial planning and oversight services at a former burn dump where a major home builder was constructing a residential development. Site cleanup included removal and offsite disposal of waste materials, disposal of metal debris, confirmatory sampling, and preparation of a Clean Closure Certification Report.
